Simplicity in smaller units. Part 3

Break things down into smaller units- the organisation of  which is simpler than a large unit. The smaller units are themselves organised to serve the larger purpose.

Looking at a business there for me there are the 5 larger units: Creating the value, getting people in(terested), encouraging them back for more, relationships with others & running it. Each of those areas have their own smaller units.

You need to be prepared to trade off other values for simplicity. A system that seeks to be totally comprehensive may be very complex. You may need to trade off that comprehensiveness for simplicity.  Specific analysis of a business, such as a SWOT analysis, is one level up from the practicalities of the day-to-day business whilst detail of what's going on with the processes within a team is a level down.

You need to know for whose sake the simplicity is being designed.  For Big Picture it's the engagement and communication for all those in the team. We don't aim to be comprehensive but do this bit really well and leave businesses to hang the other stuff of it!
